Placement Tests
Placement tests are part of the registration process and are given to all new prospective BLC students to accurately place students in our classes. Returning students are placed as recommended by last year's tutors. We want the student to be challenged, not overwhelmed. The placement test consists of four sections (listening, reading, general and speaking). The test will take about one hour. After the tests are graded, each student will meet individually with a counselor to register for the appropriate class. The entire session should take no more than two hours.
Classes
Most classes meet two times each week for 90-120 minutes. Classes begin in September and continue through mid-June. See Schedule of Classes for start date for each class. Classes do not meet on public school holidays. No child care is available.
Returning Students
Students who have taken classes with BLC previously, may register 30 minutes prior to the beginning of any scheduled class in September. See schedule of classes.
Fees
Classes cost $40 for the year, September-June, plus a textbook fee of $25. Fees can be reduced for students with financial need. A payment schedule can be set up, but the $25 book fee must be fully paid to receive the textbook.
Special Classes
A class to prepare students for citizenship is offered on Tuesday nights. A book study group meets on Tuesday mornings. See schedule of classes. Students need to have completed English 2 or score at the English 3 level on the placement test to take either of these classes.
