Low-cost English classes for adults
Founded more than 40 years ago, Beaverton Literacy Council (BLC) is a community-based, all volunteer organization. Our volunteers, many of whom have been with BLC for many years, are trained to offer positive, encouraging tutoring experiences.

The Beaverton Literacy Council provides adult instruction in English literacy, English as a Second Language, and U.S. Citizenship.

Find classes around Portland
Visit the Portland ESL Network to find classes all over the Portland area.
** To become a student **
New students must take a placement test.
Take the test in December, then start class in January. Come to 1 test:
  • Friday, December 8 at 9am OR
  • Monday, December 11 at 7pm

Both tests will be at Bethel Congregational United Church of Christ, 5150 SW Watson Avenue, Beaverton, OR 97005.

PLEASE NOTE:
  • Morning classes for Levels 4, 5, and 6 are FULL (for higher-intermediate and advanced students).
  • The morning Introduction to English (lowest beginners) is also FULL.
  • There is space in all evening classes.
  • There is space in morning classes for Levels 1, 2, and 3 (high-beginners and lower-intermediate students).

  • You do not need to register - come when you can!
  • For intermediate & advanced speakers (you do not need to take a test)
  • Every Wednesday, 7-8pm 
  • Where: In the Activity Room at Beaverton Lodge, 12900 SW 9th St, Beaverton, OR 97005
  • HOLIDAYS: NO Conversation Group November 22, December 27, or January 3. (The group WILL meet on December 20.)

HOLIDAY SCHEDULE

There will be:

  • No classes for Thanksgiving, November 22, 23, and 24.
  • No classes for Winter Break, December 17 to January 7. Classes start again on Monday, January 8.
  • No classes Monday, January 15 for Martin Luther King Day
  • No classes Monday, February 19 for President's Day.
